Maira and a Prototype Character
Maira is an OC I made back in high school, and one of the few femme fatal characters I have.
The gal in the jodhpurs and goggles is a first pass at a character who will be the protagonist in a short comic. I’m not even sure if I want a female or a male protagonist. Claud is really the first male character I’ve explored in-depth, but I also think it’d be fun to do this short adventure comic with a female lead, a la Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. HN, DECISIONS.
A New Life in Jamestown
These sketches have only been through one revision with the editor, but I’m quite happy with them. (wait five minutes, that’ll change)
These are for a story about two orphans who were snatched off the streets of London, along with about 100 other street children, and exported to the Jamestown colony where they were given to foster families, and taught how to work.
I had to look up reference for what Jamestown looked like… and boy was it a shitty little colony. Man. What the hell, it was so tiny. And virtually everyone starved the first winter because they refused to work, because they were “gentlemen” and were above things like “growing food.” Damn.
Anyway, I’ve got a ton of stuff on my plate right now: I quit FedEx on Saturday so I could start my new job Tuesday where I pretty much BS art all day (speed>quality), then go home and do more freelance, also I have the beehive to look after, the yard and fruit trees/vines/other plants, a garden that needs tilling, watering and weeding, and seedlings that need transplanting.
So I apologize for these long bouts of NOTHING.

The latest of my illustration work. I had a lot of fun with these! With the animals, because: animals, and with the non-living cycles (gas, rock, water) because I got to research some rad things.
It’s kinda funny, I’ve always wondered what it’d like to be a science textbook illustrator, and here I am, doing it! Wow. It’s such a weird thought!

Nothing but rebobs, doodles and text posts from me for the past month or so! How boring. So have some art most of you have already seen!
But in all seriousness: I have a deadline tomorrow, Friday, then another two deadlines two weeks from Friday, so I’ve been a little busy. But the good news is I’ll soon be able to show y’alls a sampling of what I’ve been doing these past weeks!

I can finally talk about this since I’m finally under contract!
I’ve signed on with Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader to do three (maybe four) short comics for their upcoming collection of short comics! The theme for the publication will be “fractured fairy-tails” and will be aimed at younger readers. But I’m trying to make my stories all ages accessible, and my friend Will is doing at least one story as well, and it’s hilarious. (Go check out his blog, it’s got robots and monsters and is generally amazing.) No idea when it’ll be published or when I’ll be paid but hey! Comics!

I have this weird idea that in order for art to look good it needs to be cleaned up and polished… despite the fact that I LOVE rough sketches and quick gestures. So goodbye line-art, hello semi-cleaned up rough sketches. But I’m still not getting along with color though. What do you think? Try a color version anyway?
